Just wanted to give a shout out to the Sycamores. Growing up in and around Sin City, I spent many a year in Hulman Center rooting for the blue. Despite the somewhat stormy breakup when my oldest son transferred away for his senior year, I still bleed blue when cut.
I found Coach Schertz’s quote to be as pointed to my experiences in basketball as any I’ve heard. For him to say this right after the loss in the NIT final was prophetic. I almost felt like he was talking to me. To come so close is heartbreaking, but not to put 100% into the effort is failure.
While ISU did not win the NIT, I’d venture to say that this ISU team was indeed GREAT.
To Coach Schertz…thank you. Not only are you a great coach, you seem to be a great person. I wish you the best and will be a fan wherever you land.
